New in 2025

The community here at Camp Accomplish is dedicated to ensuring your campers have the best experience possible. Here are answers to frequently asked questions about the Camp Accomplish experience.

Camp Accomplish is a collaboration between Melwood and Children’s National Hospital, one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the nation. Overseeing the camp is a team of highly trained, highly specialized medical professionals, including Lulu Moeller, DNP, Director of Melwood Youth and Recreation Services; John M. Schreiber, M.D., Camp Medical Director; and Kelly Vanderwende is the Camps Program Manager for Children’s National Hospital.

Camp Accomplish boasts a temperature-controlled, state-of-the-art medical facility and camp pharmacists who oversee check in of the unique medications required by each camper. Children’s National Care teams are on site 24/7 each week camp is in session to assist to the medical needs of campers. Our team of counselors and staff are also highly trained in serving campers with chronic health conditions and disabilities and many have career goals to work long-term with people from these populations.

Camp Accomplish provides a unique blend of traditional camp activities, such as s’mores by the campfire, hiking, canoeing, archery, ziplining, and nature-based programming with enriching experiences that campers may not find anywhere else, including STEM experiences, art education, gardening, and culinary activities. This blend of traditional and non-traditional camp activities is designed to give every camper at Camp Accomplish well-rounded exposure to new experiences that foster independence while building resiliency.

Everything at camp is challenge by choice. If your camper does not want to do ropes, your camper may cheer on bunkmates or do an alternative activity in the area.

During the 2025 camp season, we are adding Camp Imagine, which serves our campers with IDD and welcomes campers ages 5-22. Camp Imagine serves our campers with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who may benefit from a lower camp capacity and more staff attention. More care will be taken with providing schedules, giving and repeating instructions, offering less stimulating environments, while also offering safe and engaging ways to explore and grow. Campers will have opportunities to be more independent than at home, while having activities adapted to them that encourage self-expression and socialization. Day Camp includes ages 5-18 and Overnight Camp goes up to age 22.

Day Camp is a great option for any camper ages 5 – 12 who may not be ready to attend overnight camp. Campers who come to Day Camp can expect to build strong bonds with each other as well as Overnight campers they may have in their group who can serve as role models. During the 2025 season, Day Camp will welcome campers ages 5 – 12 and will help prepare these campers to join overnight camp during future seasons when they are ready.

Day camp transportation will be run only out of National Harbor only. We’re open to running overnight camp transportation for certain weeks if there is enough demand for it.

We are searching for a new cater, but campers can expect to enjoy classic camp food: hamburgers, pasta, taco bars, pizza, sandwiches, chicken tenders/nuggets, etc. Outside snacks are welcome so long as they are nut-free. We do ask that snacks be kept in the dining hall so that bugs are not attracted to the cabins and so that snacks are not shared with other campers.

Yes! Absolutely!

Camp Accomplish isn’t only for campers with disabilities and chronic health conditions. Children and teens with and without disabilities and chronic health conditions are able to learn and grow here, together.

We encourage all campers to invite friends, siblings and allies to attend Camp Accomplish. Together, they will make memories that last a lifetime and strengthen their bonds while participating in traditional camp activities like canoeing, zip lining, and hiking, or trying something fun and new such as equine therapy, STEM experiences or gardening.

Campers who need 1:1 supports are encouraged to sign up for Camp Imagine, Camp Accomplish’s newest specialty camp serving our campers with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Camp Accomplish will continue to offer specialty camps specifically for campers with chronic health conditions, fully staffed by knowledgeable and caring clinical teams from Children’s National. 1:1 supports during specialty camps will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis for those who have the condition for each specialty week.

Everyone will get about an hour with the horses and other farm animals, either riding, driving a cart, or having unmounted activities getting to know the animals. Some restrictions may be applied for the safety of campers. Because we have a limited number of horses and they can only give so many rides, not everyone will be able to ride.

Any campers who register for camp by January 31, 2025 will save $50 on Day Camp fees and $100 on overnight camp fees. Scholarships are available, and during the 2024 season, Camp Accomplish was proud to grant 100% of scholarship requests!
